Discovering Salem’s Spooky Past No trip to Massachusetts is complete without a visit to Salem, a town synonymous with the infamous witch trials of 1692. The Salem Witch Museum was a fascinating highlight, diving into the history and hysteria that gripped the region centuries ago. Through life-size exhibits and storytelling, we learned about the trials, their causes, and their enduring legacy. The museum also touched on how the idea of witchcraft evolved over time, making it both an educational and slightly eerie experience.

Stepping Back in Time at Plymouth Next, we headed to Plymouth, where history truly comes to life. Seeing Plymouth Rock was a humbling reminder of the Pilgrims’ arrival in 1620. While the rock itself is smaller than one might expect, its significance looms large.

The Plimoth Patuxet Museums provided a vivid window into the lives of both the Pilgrims and the native Wampanoag people. Exploring the recreated 17th-century English village and Wampanoag homesite was both informative and immersive. At the nearby Plimoth Grist Mill, we saw a working reproduction of the mill that once served the colony, grinding cornmeal and offering a glimpse into early colonial industry.

Revolutionary Spirit at Minute Man National Historic Park Another stop was Minute Man National Historic Park, where the first battles of the American Revolution took place. Walking along the Battle Road Trail, we retraced the steps of the brave minutemen who stood up to British forces in 1775. The park’s visitor centers feature exhibits and multimedia presentations that bring the Revolutionary War to life. The North Bridge, where the "shot heard ‘round the world" was fired, was a particularly poignant place to reflect on the courage and sacrifices of those who fought for independence.
